| The Whispers has recently been repackaged by new label Upstairs Mate Records and is being distributed by Sound Vault Records. Copies are available at JB around Australia. You should find them instores, and can be ordered through JB if they’re sold out.

Come down to the Wesley Ann (high st, Northcote) next Wednesday 10th 8:30pm. I’m looking forward to the gig. It’s a beautiful venue, and should be a great night.
The Australian tour continues this month, with the Perth as the next stop. Keep posted for details about a gig at the fly by night on the 24th Jan
Last week I was at Shane and Lauren’s wedding, and ended up being the driver. As I wasn’t in the bridal party, I had to avoid getting in the background of the photos at Studley Park. So I thought I’d take some of my own photos…
I had a great time on the road last month. I headed off with Justin, Tim and Yuval for a tour to Adelaide. Travelling in the old combi seemed to bring us lots of friendly cheer, with one man giving us free magnums when we arrived in his town (ice creams- not guns that is). Despite the combi’s reluctance to start smoothly (have you seen ‘little miss sunshine?’) we got there and had a great time.
We played a gig at the grace emily, jive, and a radio show on 3d and then played an outdoor gig at a farm near Warnambool on the way back. It was beautiful singing songs under the stars to families relaxing on the deck, and children wrapped up in sleeping bags. Great to meet Josh Spier too, who put us up (so we only slept once in the combi).
Yeah, it has been a big month of gigs. I had a great time up in Sydney playing shows there for the first time. I will definitely be going back and it was great to meet some other muso’s too.
Last night, had another gig in Geelong and I am getting ready for a trip over to Adelaide with Justin Grounds in a few weeks. My favourite gig of the month was at the Wesley Anne in Northcote - there was a very special vibe.
Here is a recent review of The Whispers from FasterLouder.com.au.
“Much like the great minimalist releases, The Whispers allows space to reinforce meaning. It is a record that speaks when spoken to.
Channelling the passion of early Ben Harper, and the compositional nous of James Taylor, ‘The Whispers’ is the debut album from singer-songwriter Kim Beales. The record fuses socially aware and intimate lyricism with restrained and mature arrangements.
Opening track, Nowhere, establishes the mood of the album from the get-go. Sparse, but with edges of darkness, this song appears born for a dimly-lit, smoke-filled bar room. Distant trumpet and upright bass allow the space for Beales’ laid-back vocal delivery to breathe. Familiar, but unique, when Beales sings you know that he means it…” (Read More)
